Duckhams Yuasa Racing targets Silverstone success as season enters final stages

Duckhams Yuasa Racing and Jacob Tofts will travel to Silverstone aiming to strengthen their Porsche Carrera Cup GB Pro-Am championship challenge during the penultimate weekend of the season.

Jacob heads to the Northamptonshire circuit third in the Pro-Am standings with 82 points following two fourth-place finishes at Croft. Although the results did not reflect the pace of the distinctive Duckhams and Yuasa-liveried Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, the team demonstrated its potential and will now look to convert that speed into a return to the podium when the championship visits Silverstone for rounds 13 and 14 this weekend.

Unlike the Grand Prix configuration used by Formula One, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB will compete on Silverstone’s shorter National circuit. Measuring just 1.64 miles, it produces fast and closely contested racing, with lap times typically separated by only fractions of a second.

The National layout begins with the high-speed right-hander at Copse before drivers accelerate along the National Straight and negotiate the heavy braking zone at Brooklands. From there, the cars pass through the long right-hander at Luffield before sweeping through Woodcote and back onto the start-finish straight.

With only a handful of corners, every detail will be crucial. Qualifying is expected to be particularly important, as the short lap will leave little room for error and could produce extremely narrow margins throughout the field. Finding a clear piece of track and maximising the performance of the tyres will therefore be essential.

The circuit’s compact nature also creates its own challenges in race conditions. Slipstreaming opportunities and closely matched lap times can lead to large groups of cars running together, while the braking zone at Brooklands is likely to provide one of the best opportunities to overtake.

With two class victories and a consistent collection of podium finishes during his debut Porsche Carrera Cup GB campaign, Jacob and the Duckhams Yuasa Racing team remain firmly in contention for a leading championship position. His performances have established him as a regular Pro-Am frontrunner while he continues to build his experience in the highly competitive one-make series.

Silverstone is a track that I know well, so hopefully it will bring some better results. It’s great to be racing at Silverstone. It’s fun, I know it well, and I’ve had some good results there in the Caymans and when I raced a Formula Ford.

I really enjoy Copse at turn one, while Brooklands and Luffield are good fun because you can really make a difference under braking and perfect your technique into Brooklands. It’s such a short lap, so fine margins really count, and you have to be on your A-game.

I’m targeting a return to the podium and maybe even an overall podium. I’m really excited.
