Duckhams Yuasa Racing set for high-speed Thruxton challenge

Duckhams Yuasa Racing by Graves Motorsport and driver Max Coates head to Thruxton full of optimism this weekend (7th & 8th June) for rounds seven and eight of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.

Max became a race winner last time out at Snetterton, taking an impressive lights-to-flag victory after starting the second race from pole position. Now he has tasted the winners champagne, and more importantly, knows he has what it takes to beat the competition, he is having to re-adjust his expectations.

While his initial focus was on learning the car and being competitive in Pro Am, the aspirations have now moved up a gear as he targets overall glory and taking on the Pro class drivers for overall honours.

As the fastest circuit in UK motorsport, Thruxton presents a unique challenge, especially in a car as fast at the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Type 992). A large proportion of the 2.35-mile, 10 corner lap is spent at full throttle, presenting quite the thrill ride. Action-packed races have come to be expected from the venue, as have locked tyres into the crucial final chicane. It should certainly proved to be an impressive spectacle.

The action gets underway with the crucial qualifying session tomorrow at 11:15, followed by two races on Sunday. The first contest gets underway at 10:50, with the second shown live on ITV4 at 15:25.

Max Coates
“Thruxton is the fastest circuit on the UK calendar. It's a different kind of track to the two that we've visited so far this season and much harder. I've not raced there for five years, but we're here to win and we've shown that. It will be a challenge, but one I'm really relishing.

“It’s going to be tricky getting the tyres to switch on quick enough, and not letting them drop off so much over the race, so there’s plenty to be thinking about. I'm quite keen to see what top speed we get and the car felt awesome all weekend at Snetterton, so if that is anything to go by, Thruxton is going to be an absolute hoot!”
